Illustrating an idea

A great illustration starts with a creative idea. For me, it is like packing a good snowball. You start with a small crumb of an idea and then ask some questions either to those around you or maybe even to yourself and then the ideas start building upon themselves and soon you have a well hashed out sketch. From the sketch, I then transfer it to nice paper and start the color and finishing touches. While I have worked in graphite, acrylics, pastels, and digital, right now I am focusing on watercolor. I love the transparency whimsical nature of the vibrant watercolors. It is as if they dance across your paper swirling and mingling with other colors! Here is a new sketch I am working out for a holiday greeting card. It is a fun line up of forest mammals singing along together.
