This is the time of year I get to start planning for summer camps. I have been jotting down little inspirational thoughts throughout the year and now is the time to turn all those random thoughts into a fun curriculum for camps. We do icebreakers first thing which is nice because while some kids are returning from previous years, there are always new ones who are a little shy and sleepy to start. This year, I've thought of some new ways to get them interacting with each other, I think its going to work even better than last year's games.
We do a lot of sketching of our resident animals and plants from the garden and forest. My neighbors also have fun animals and are willing to visit Monahan Studio with them. This year we get to sketch a cute little donkey which is new to the neighborhood!
In the afternoon, we get to try painting, sculpture, and printmaking techniques. Creativity and exploration of these techniques are always encouraged. This is not a camp where everyone goes home with the same thing at the end of the day. After all, art is all about expressing your creative mind and problem solving how to get what is in your mind out into the world!
